Homework Can Be A Major Source of Fighting

Homework can be a major source of fighting between me and my children some weeks. It can seem like the teachers forget that students have more then just this class to do homework for. I have had to spend many hours working with my youngest son to keep him current with all the homework he is assigned in the 9th grade. He is not an efficient reader when trying to read his assignments. Often if I read the assignment out loud to him he can quickly do what is needed. I have discussed this with his teachers and the response I get is he can read so no special help is needed. The past week was very hard for all of us, as the children all had large amounts of homework. This meant long nights for them and me getting everything done before the mid-term deadline. I am tired of listening to my daughter cry because she is so overwhelmed by all of her homework. I think some teachers get sidetracked with their own agendas, and suddenly find they are at a certain pint in the year, so just send all the work home as homework assignments knowing there is likely someone that is concerned enough with the student to help them get it done. Teachers should have to justify their amount of homework assignments with equal in class learning. Parents and children should get to spend more time together doing fun things rather then fighting over getting homework done. My kids and I dislike their school teachers, and the amount of homework assignments!
